Nikita Robb adds Roxy Wahine Cup Open and Under 18 titles at Suncoast Beach in Durban
National under 18 champion Nikita Robb of East London added two more titles to her impressive tally of victories when she won both the premier Open Division final and the Under 18 final at the 2006 Roxy Wahine Cup presented by Peugeot and Samsung at Durban's Suncoast Beach, Sunday (December 3).
In the Open final Robb beat previous champion Sarah Johnston Maritz of Warner Beach into second place to pocket the huge R10000 winners cheque. WP Surfer of the Year, Tarryn Chudleigh of Kommetjie was third and talented national Under 12 champion Sarah Baum of Athlone Park, finished fourth.
After the prizegiving an elated Robb said " I'm stoked. It has been a great event. Next year I am going to be doing the ASP World Qualifying Series Tour full time so the prizemoney is going towards that".
Bianca Buitendag (12) of Victoria Bay was second behind Robb in the Under 18 division, and third placed Danielle Le Roux of Durban edged Holly Armstrong of Kommetjie into fourth.
Chudleigh, who won a number of accolades at the annual WP Surfing Awards Function last week, beat her arch rival and felloe 2006 national junior team member Chantelle Rautenbach of Melkbosstrand into second place to secure the Under 16 Division title.
Another 2006 national junior team member, Alice Mc Gregor of East London,was third while Danielle Johnson of Ocean View took fourth spot..
Recently crowned WP Under 14 champion, Holly Armstrong won the Under 14 Wahine Cup title with Sarah Baum second while Heidi Palmboom of the Bluff was third and Bianca Buitendag added a fourth spot to her runner up position in the Under 18 final.
Baum was presented with the Zig Zag Blowing up award for her outstanding performance in the event.
The unique Novices division, which featured surfers who had never competed in a contest before, was won by Jessica Swart of Durban. Jessica is the daughter of former SA Surfing Champion and current Quiksilver SA Sales Manager, Greg Swart. She won a full years sponsorship from Roxy.
The Novices final was an all Durban affair with local girls Courtney Green,Traci Lee Phillips and Kirsten Biffen ending second, third and fourth respectively
The final day of the eighth Roxy Wahine Cup, the biggest stand alone event for girls in South Africa, took place in front of a huge crowd in contestable 2-3 foot surf and in windless conditions.
Over 120 surfers entered the Surfing South Africa event which offered R25000 in prizemoney to finalists in the U14, U16, U18 and Open divisions.
