SURF REPORT 17th MAY 2011

After some solid swell early last week, the surf settled down and there was ample chance to get wet. The large gnarly conditions however saw Sid and Damon teaming up to do some tow-ins last Monday. Conditions were so heavy that a paddle out was impossible. Damon whipped Sid into a few huge waves with some exceptional rides on offer including some of the biggest barrels I've ever seen ridden. Hats off to the two of them who are certainly taking big wave surfing to the next level in our area.

The surf looks to remain small for the rest of the week with a fresh groundswell arriving on Friday. The weekend looks to be solid with good period and light winds. If it looks good - get wet.

The SA Champs took place at Seal Point this past week. Border were victorious with KZN in second spot. Open men's was won by Greg Emslie, and Nikita Rob took the ladies title. Boys U 20 was won by Nick Godfrey with Sarah Baum taking the girls U 20 title.

The SA Junior team leave for Peru this week to compete in the ISA Junior World Games. SA boasts a strong team and we wish them well. I will also be attending and look forward to watching some of the best juniors in the world competing. It can be viewed online at ISA.com.

Hope the surf cranks - see you in two weeks.
Johno
