The past week saw lots of hot sunshine with scattered showers and surfable conditions for the most part. There's a slight hint of winter on it's way. The weekend saw good surf in the early mornings and challenging conditions at most spots. I hope that you were able to get wet.
The coming week will see the surf increase in size from Thursday through Saturday when it looks to drop off on Sunday. Light winds predominantly from the south will hopefully make for good surf at most spots with good period. Make sure you keep tabs on what's happening at your local beach.
The past weekend saw the running of the Mr Price WP Open at Kommetjie's Long Beach. Not only was the weather perfect but so was the surf. Sunday saw a jump in swell size with consistent waves the whole day. Sarah Baum took the ladies title with an excellent display of power surfing. Umhlanga local Berrick De Vries took the pro junior division with an awesome display of new school surfing - he is truly one of SA's new rising stars. Former WCT surfer Greg Emslie took the senior division with a truly polished performance, just showing his class.
Our trip last week to Mozam was excellent. Although smaller than what we expected, the surf didn't stop with long open walls on offer. It was truly excellent and well worth the trip.
I'll see you at the beach. Johno |
